Yearbook Order Center Update

August 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Starting today, Herff Jones’ Yearbook Order Center has a whole new look and additional functionality with updated security features.

New Ways to Pay
- U.S. customers can now buy their book online via eCheck. This will allow customers who do not have a debit or credit card to enter their checking account routing number and account number online and have the funds electronically debited from their checking account. eChecks are currently an online-only feature and cannot be processed over the phone by Order Center representatives.

Shipping Address Collection
- You can request that the Order Center gather shipping information by noting it on your Enrollment Form or by calling the Order Center. You will be able to download an Excel spreadsheet of the shipping addresses from YBAccess in order to print labels.

Homeroom Information Reminder
- The Order Center still collect Student Name and Grade for every package purchased. In addition, we can now add one additional data field to the Web site to make distribution easier for you. This field can be used to collect data such as “homeroom” or “teacher name” or anything the school might need for distribution. Simply fill in what item you would like collected in the appropriate place on the enrollment form. This data will then be available on your distribution list and Clique file that you download from YBAccess.

Do your designs need work? “Google” them!

August 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

No, no – don’t spend time searching for your designs among the gazillions of web pages listed in the Google search engine. Instead, apply the same design principles that the Google UX (User Interface) Team applies to every program and service that Google puts out on the web. Even though the smart folks at Google are designing for a completely different medium and have different goals-good design IS good design and you can adapt their 10 Principles that Make a Design “Googley” to your yearbook work:

1. Focus on People
2. Every Millisecond Counts
3. Simplicity is Powerful
4. Engage Beginners and Attract Experts
5. Dare to Innovate
6. Design for the World
7. Plan for Today’s and Tomorrow’s Businesses
8. Delight the Eye Without Distracting the Mind
9. Be Worthy of People’s Trust
10. Add a Human Touch

Here’s a link to the Google blog with more info on each principle. Happy Friday!

August 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

If you’re packing the coolest smartphone around (okay, I am biased!) then check out the new iPhone-optimized version of the Herff Jones website, iHJ-created by yours truly. The mobile version of Safari already renders yearbooks.biz pretty well, but iHJ gives you the feel of running a local application and lets you quickly:

- browse the Frequently Asked Questions
- view the Showcase images for inspiration
- learn about upcoming Events
- contact your plant or the National Tech Hotline
- Log-In to Yearbook Access, and more

Check out the site and let me know what you think with the Comments button in the upper-right on the top navigation bar.

Welcome back! Start the year with a smile…

August 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today’s the first day of school for many in the Sacramento and surrounding areas (sorry Center Unified!) and with all the stresses that come with starting, here’s a little fun for the day. Find a picture of yourself looking straight into the camera and then go to www.yearbookyourself.com to see what you may have looked like were you part of an earlier generation…
